FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do I need an account?

No — ShareAPod never asks you to sign up, log in, or hand over an email. Paste any podcast episode or show link into the box on the home page and you get a permanent short URL (a permalink) back within seconds. The link is created anonymously and stored by URL only: there's no profile, no password, and nothing tied to your identity. Anyone you send the link to can open it, and no account is created at any point — for you or for them.

Is the link public?

Yes — any ShareAPod permalink is public, so anyone who has the short URL can open it. Treat it like a shared Google Doc link: it isn't listed in a public directory and we don't ask search engines to index it, but it also isn't secret. There's no access control or expiry, so the link keeps working for as long as the episode exists on the source platforms. If you wouldn't post something publicly, don't put it behind a ShareAPod link.

Why don't all platforms get direct links?

ShareAPod resolves each episode or show across 18 platforms, but a few don't expose a stable, episode-level URL we can link to directly. For those, we build a well-formed search URL instead, so tapping the button still opens the right app and lands on the correct episode or show rather than a dead end. Platforms with full APIs — Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube Music — almost always get an exact direct link.

What about timestamps?

If you paste a link that includes a timestamp — for example a Spotify or YouTube link that starts partway through an episode — ShareAPod preserves it and passes it to any destination app that supports starting at a specific time. Some apps ignore timestamps and begin from the start of the episode; that's a limitation of those apps, not the link. Timestamps only apply to episodes, not to whole shows.

Which platforms are supported?

ShareAPod currently resolves links across 18 platforms: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Overcast, Pocket Casts, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Castbox, Podcast Addict, TuneIn, Deezer, Podbean, Castro, Fountain, Snipd, Podcast Guru, and Podverse. You can paste a link from any of them as your starting point, and the permalink will offer the rest. The list grows over time — the home page always shows the current set.

Can I use this for a show (not an episode)?

Yes. Paste a show or podcast link — not just a single episode — and ShareAPod resolves the cross-platform URLs for the whole show, so listeners can subscribe in whatever app they prefer. Everything works the same as it does for episodes, except timestamps, which only apply to a specific point inside an episode.

How does ShareAPod compare to pod.link or similar tools?

Like pod.link, ShareAPod turns one pasted link into a shareable permalink that opens in your listener's preferred app. The main differences are breadth and method: ShareAPod resolves across 18 platforms and preserves Spotify and YouTube timestamps where the destination supports them. It also uses the Podcast Index — an open, community-maintained catalog — for resolution rather than a single proprietary database, which helps it cover independent and niche shows. And it's free, with no account required.
